


The Reverend Mona A. Bailey
Mona Bailey, a minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA), retired in 2005 following a twenty-five year career as a hospital chaplain. For fourteen years she served as Chaplain with oversight over Pastoral Care at HCA Medical Center of Plano. Previous chaplain experience includes three years at Parkland Hospital, Dallas. She has also supervised chaplain students, and Ms. Bailey has taught a required course in spiritual formation to Master of Divinity students at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. On Sundays, she led services at Corinth Presbyterian Church in Parker, Texas, (home of the South Fork Ranch of television fame) from 1984 to 2005.
Ms. Bailey received her Master of Theology degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Recently, Ms. Bailey moved to Fort Worth and serves at the pleasure of Grace Presbytery in assisting congregations experiencing transition. Since retirement, she has served as the Assistant Stated Clerk of the Synod of the Sun. She is married to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth member, Mike Bailey. They have a son who practices medicine as a radiologist and a daughter who left college teaching to raise an unexpected but welcome child.
In the community of Plano, she has served on the long-range planning task force for the Plano Independent School District, helped to establish a domestic violence shelter and counseling program, and was a member of the board of directors of Physicians for Plano. She also served as a member of the Ethics Committee at HCA Medical Center of Plano. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Samaritan Inn, a homeless shelter in McKinney, and was a founding board member of Habitat for Humanity for Dallas. She was a member of clergy committees of both the American Cancer Society of Dallas and Planned Parenthood of Dallas.
Ms. Bailey has served the Presbyterian Church (USA) as a member of the General Assembly Justice for Women Committee, as a member of the Synod of the Sun Nominating Committee, and as a pastoral colleague of caregivers in the Middle East at the conclusion of the Gulf War. Following the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Ms. Bailey provided training for the debriefing of caregivers. In Grace Presbytery, she has served on the Division of Care for Church Professionals, the Justice for Women Committee, the Permanent Judicial Commission and the Committee on Ministry. She has served as editor at large for the journal, Presbyterian Outlook, and has been a contributing columnist to the General Assembly News.
A frequent leader of retreats and workshops at conferences, Ms. Bailey served as Director for the Montreat 1997 Presbyterian Women's Conference.
